When considering the search for a therapist, I reflect upon the times that I have had counselling and consider what was important to me. The ease of the relationship is important, the opportunity to feel comfortable, safe and not judged is something that creates that special bond. I wasn't lucky enough to discover my ideal straight away, it took a few attempts for me to finally be able to say that I have found my safe space, a therapist who I trust, who allows me to dig deep and explore what is really going on. I hope these qualities are evident in my practice. You see, clients sometimes see counsellors as someone who is totally in control or hasn't experienced desperate times. The truth is, for me, it is those times that have brought me to where I am today. I use these times to walk in my client's shoes. It allows me to feel what they feel and accompany them on their journey. Today, I can draw on the strength that my past has given me and use it to benefit others. I hope to share this space with honesty and provide useful resources/techniques to assist with your journey of self discovery. Thank you for reading my first post, it would also be good if you would provide feedback on topics you would like to see covered here.
